The desktop CD lets you try Ubuntu without making any changes to your computer, and you can choose to install it permanently later. This type of CD is generally the preferred option for most users. To install this CD, your computer must have at least 256 MB of RAM.

The server install CD allows you to install permanently on a computer for use as a server. It will not install a graphical user interface.
