PeaZip is a file archiver that applies powerful multiple-search filters to an archive’s content. It allows users to create and extract multiple archives at once and to create self-extracting archives. Users can export job definitions as command-line instructions, save archive layouts, and bookmark archives and folders. Additionally, it can scan and open compressed and uncompressed files with custom applications.
Other features include strong encryption, robust file copying, file splitting and joining (file spanning), secure data deletion, file comparison, checksum and hash generation, system benchmarking, and the ability to generate random passwords and keyfiles.
PeaZip is an open-source, cross-platform file archiver offered as portable and installable software for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows and Linux. It is a desktop-neutral application.
PeaZip is freeware, free of cost for any use, and can also be free as in freedom because it’s Open Source (LGPLv3). PeaZip can also be available as a standalone, portable application that does not need installation.

PeaZip can extract most archive formats from Windows and Unix environments, ranging from mainstream formats like 7Z, RAR, TAR, and ZIP to experimental ones including the PAQ/LPAQ family, making it the most powerful compressor available. It supports a wide range of compression and encryption standards, from the fastest to the most powerful. Additionally, PeaZip allows users to export job definitions as scripts, bridging the gap between GUI and console applications while enabling them to choose the best of both worlds.
PeaZip has a safe deletion feature, can confirm file checksum and hash, and supports multiple robust encryption requirements, optionally using two-factor authentication (password and keyfile) for elevated security:
- 7Z: 7-Zip AES256 encryption
- ZIP: WinZip AES256 AE encryption, and ZipCrypto for legacy compatibility; can decrypt PKZip’s AES encryption
- ARC: FreeARC AES256, Blowfish, Twofish256 and Serpent256
- PEA: AES256 EAX authenticated encryption
PeaZip is localized in 29 languages and can deal with all the most popular archive formats (150+ file types), supporting a wide selection of advanced file and archive management features (search, bookmarks, thumbnail viewer, hashing, find duplicate files, convert archives…), particularly targeted on security (strong encryption, two-factor authentication, encrypted password manager, safe deletion…).
Supported Operating Systems:
- Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10, 11 (32 and 64 bit),
- Linux ARM, BSD
