RSSOwl is a free and powerful news feed reader that collects data from RSS-compliant sites, also known as an RSS reader or “aggregator.
RSSOwl allows you to gather, organize, update, and store information from any compliant source through a user-friendly interface. You can save selected information in various formats for offline viewing, sharing, and more.
RSS (“Really Simple Syndication” or “Rich Site Summary”) is a document specification that gives users the power to collect and organize Web-based news and information more efficiently.
RSSOwl supports a wide range of features that make RSSOwl accessible. This includes reduced colors in high contrast mode, keyboard shortcuts, and support for screen readers. You can use the embedded Browser to open the full content of a news entry from the originating website.
You can easily add new features to RSSOwl using the integrated Add-on wizard. For instance, the Newsgroup Reader allows you to read newsgroups in RSSOwl like regular feeds. Additionally, you can customize the toolbar to make frequently used actions accessible with a single click.
RSSOwl Features:
Enable grouping mode to organize news entries from a feed by specific attributes. For example, you can group news by date, author, category, feed, or other criteria. Switch to newspaper view to display the full content of a feed at once within the embedded browser. You can still perform common actions, such as marking news items as read or sticky, directly from the browser using the options listed below each headline.
Create as many News Bins as you need to store important news. News can be copied or moved from any feed. Use News Filters to set up rules that automatically move or copy news to specific News Bins. Apply Labels to associate keywords with news entries. You can assign multiple labels or create new ones. Each Label has a unique color to help you easily identify labeled news.
News Filters are among the most powerful features in RSSOwl. They automate common tasks such as moving or copying news to News Bins. You can create as many filters as needed; each filter contains search conditions to identify specific news and a list of actions to apply to matching items. Once created, the filter automatically processes downloaded news that meets the search criteria. You can also use filters on news items that have been previously downloaded.
The Notifier is a small popup that displays the headlines of incoming news even when RSSOwl is minimized. You can mark news entries as sticky from the Notifier to remember to read the full content of the entry at a later time.
